Microsoft CorporationWhile predominately known for their software products, Microsoft released a line of digital media products from 2006 through 2010 under the Zune brand which possesed hardware that was typically superior to the competition, but poor marketing and product mangement led to Microsoft discontinuing the entire product line in 2011. The first-generation Zune device was a 30GB device that used a miniature hard disk drive (HDD). The second-generation Zune devices utilized flash storage for 4GB and 8GB devices, as well as an 80GB HDD-based device. The third-generation Zune devices were a 16GB flash-based device and a 120GB HDD-based device. The fourth and last generation of Zune hardware consisted of the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB Zune HD flash-based devices.
